The famed restaurant “Seiyo Zendokoro John Kanaya Azabu Restaurant” was founded by John Kanaya in Nishi Azabu (closed in 2004). Inspired by John’s concept of Wakeiyosan or “East Meets West,” this legendary restaurant greatly delighted the palates of gourmands, anticipating the nouvelle cuisine movement. Seiyo Zendokoro John Kanaya Restaurant, our main dining room, has inherited that DNA. We invite you to the world of Kanaya-style cuisine, a veritable procession of new sensations, such as the Kanaya Tamago (egg) created by founding Executive Chef, Hiroyuki Sakai, the most successful chef on cult television cooking show, Iron Chef.
With each meal, the creative French cuisine, delicate enough to be picked up with chopsticks, hides a sophisticated culinary surprise among the uncompromising freshness and Umami flavors brought to you with the best seasonal ingredients. For your beverage, only the best wines have been selected that would meet the high standards of wine connoisseur John Kanaya. Come visit Hakone with its bounty of seasonal ingredients and experience the French cuisine of KANAYA RESORT HAKONE, which is always evolving in elegant and creative ways.

The hospitality of Kanaya

We offer breakfast in a traditional Japanese style. Freshly cooked rice, prepared in a traditional iron pot, reveals a gentle natural sweetness, accompanied by delicately rolled dashi tamagoyaki and charcoal-grilled Miodori chicken.
To finish, fragrant dashi is poured over the rice, allowing it to be enjoyed lightly as a comforting bowl of ochazuke.

Let the Japanese flavor of our original herb tea heal you.
We offer luxurious original blends based on either English tea or roasted green tea (Hojicha), in addition to green-tea base blends such as one that adds a hint of orange peel to the slight bitterness of green tea.
